My Latest Poem: "Snow Day"

"Snow Day" By Jason Burke

Every other day,
You were the one to walk away.
The true fruits of success were never really tasted,
The anguish near obsession, obliterated, wasted.
After months of communication, I hung my soul on the connection,
Yet even battle tested, it somehow got infected.
Should I again blame myself for another slipping anchor,
Or even worse, turn my bitter feelings into anger?
The pattern yet continues, the more I get invested,
And end up on the losing end, like a trembling adolescent.

But this time I choose moving forward, going through the process
As much as it pains me to lose another, I can't forego my progress.
Big things are on the horizon now, as I gain exposure,
So these words on a page amount to a lot, especially in closure.
Your heart is golden, this I know, you'll always have my support,
You'll do great things, but in my eyes, you've finally fallen short.
Where we went wrong, where we lost, it seems I'll never know,
But now for months, I've been holding on, while you've been letting go.
Now the roles are reversed, a lifted curse, my skies turn to blue from gray,
When it comes to you, I never knew, and never thought I'd say,
I'm breaking away, rising above, and taking a snow day.

I hope you guys like this one. I'm gonna send a few tags for people who like poetry to check this out. I wrote it all as I went along, but the emotion is real. It's a short one, and the title is a bit hokey, but I liked this theme because of the blizzard we've been having lately, and I love to use pop culture in my work. Let me know what you think.
